Choose Your Own Adventure
For a long time I thought that in the future my writing will become some form of symbiosis between the readers and myself (the writer). Not sure exactly why I stopped and thought about this, just as the cup of coffee warmed my hands, but I believe it had to do with this urge to get into a "choose your own adventure" type of story.
As a kid, I loved “choose your own adventure” book series. I often was forced to read, and those books gave me an easy out. Choosing all the worst paths often led to the swift death of the character, which means I always went for the spicy choices. Although, sometimes the story became interesting and I wanted to keep reading, but then the character would die suddenly, or rather stupidly. Was that the trick?
Can a story branch so far out and still remain interesting or relevant to connect with the readers? What about existing stories? Would there be a reason, if anything just for fun, to pick up old stories and transform them into a multiple choice of parallel stories? Or perhaps it would be a great way to practice my writing and editing skills? Analyse old popular books, defragment their ideas, question character choices, write them out, come up with new stories that are your own.
Just but a thought, quickly became a project.
